In Game of Thrones case it was a deliberate decision. At the same time Season 8 took the longest to film out of any previous season. 10 whole months for 6 episodes. It could be argued they decided on 6 to concentrate their budgets on bigger episodes. Though who really knows.

Reason: In Season 6 and 7, The Saviors are considered as like the Worst People ever, yet in Season 8, They seem to have Hearts, it's like the Writers forgot everything about THe Saviors.

Most people also compare GOT to Lost because both show have the same reception (great show, polarize ending). To me, season 8 GOT just a bad copy version of Lost. Don’t get me wrong, I like both show, and I think both show have change the way we watching television & turn TV into blockbuster.
